How To Search

As well as browsing around Musicroom to see what you can find, if you know what you're looking for you can search for it directly using the site's search engine.

Search Tips

If your search is not providing useful results, you may find the following tips helpful.

  • Check for misspellings. Make sure you've typed in the word correctly.
  • Search by typing words and phrases. Your results will be more accurate if you use multiple search terms.

If your search gives you too few results, use more general terms when you search.
BEFORE alto sax jazz backing tracks
    AFTER alto sax backing tracks

If you get too many search results, be more specific.
    BEFORE play guitar with
AFTER play guitar with the Beatles
"play guitar with" returns results for various different artists. The AFTER version narrows down the search to products related to "The Beatles"
  • Refine your search. It’s easy to refine your search to get precisely what you want. Here are some techniques you can try:

Identify a phrase by enclosing it in inverted commas.
    BEFORE grade 3 piano pieces
    AFTER "grade 3" piano pieces
The result from the AFTER version will return products restricted only to "grade 3". The BEFORE version would also return products that matched "grade 3 piano pieces".

Use the PLUS (+) and MINUS (-) symbol to require and exclude a word or phrase.
    BEFORE "backing tracks"
    AFTER "backing tracks, +guitar, -beginner"
"backing tracks" may return too many results. You can use the MINUS sign to eliminate products for "beginners" and you can require that all results contain the word "guitar". The AFTER version above does both.

The Search Bar

If you are looking for a particular item, you can use the search box at the top of every page.

Using the drop-down list, you can pick whether you want to search through a particular field in the store you are in, such as Product Title, Song Title, Artist or Catalogue Number, or if you would rather just search generally through the entire site.

When you have specified where you would like to look, enter one or more search terms that you are looking for and press the button marked 'Search'.

Search Results

Your search results may be listed in one of four ways, depending on how you searched and how many results there are:

  • No Results: If your search doesn't return any results at all, you will be given some other options to help you find what you want.
  • One Result: If there is only one item that fits your search, you may be taken directly to the relevant page.
  • Results List: For many searches, your results will simply be listed 10 items to a page, and there are links at the top and bottom of the list to jump backwards and forwards through the pages.

You can re-sort the results by various criteria (right), such as in order of price or skill level, to make it easier to find what you want.

  • You can click on the title or image of an item to go to its Product Information page, or if you know you want to order it, just press the 'Add' button to put it in your basket.
  • Results Summary: For most general searches, you will be given a results summary page breaking down your results into the site's different departments. You can then go straight to the most popular items from your results, or go to a results list for the most appropriate area of the site.
