Dietrich Buxtehude: Keyboard Suites is an appealing compilation of works by a master who not only influenced Bach and later composers but whose talents are also evident in the remarkable body of Vocal and instrumental music he left behind.

        Musicroom Reviews

I bought this after listening to the excellent recording of Buxtehude harpsichord music by Lars Ulrik Mortensen on Naxos. Some of the 19 suites are perhaps less interesting than others, but enough are very rewarding to play. There is no explanation of Buxtehude's ornament signs, two of which are unfamiliar to me and not in any reference book that I have, but they can be guessed at. There are some impossible stretches in the left hand, presumably where contemporary instruments had short-octave tuning, so a little re-arrangement is sometimes necessary. The Dover edition scores full marks for legibility and general presentation.
