Wilhelm Ganz: Qui Vive

Books | Piano Duet

Publisher: Braydeston Press
Composer: Wilhelm Ganz
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album

Wilhelm Ganz (1833-1914) was a German musician who escaped from the continent in 1848 and spent the rest of his life in London. As a violinist and conductor, he worked alongside Berlioz and Wagner, and held a singing professorship at the Guildhall School of Music. Despite being well-regarded in his lifetime, his compositional work has largely fallen into obscurity over the last century.

Ganz’s Op.12 is Qui Vive (c.1860-70): inspired by the Galop, a lively country dance, but intended for concert performance. It is scored for a Piano Duet, and keeps the pianists entertained by modulating several times through closely linked keys, based around Eb Major.

For a few quid, I've had more pleasure out of learning and playing this piece than I could ever have imagined! A delight, and not terribly difficult.

Excellent to be able to source this duet.
A little difficult to read some of the notes.

A great piece recommended by my mother who played it with her mother. Very orchestral writing - a little like a grand opera overture - and even though neither of us are particularly accomplished players, we can still enjoy playing this.

This piece is an all time childhood favourite in my family and this music arrived in perfect condition and in good time. It allowed us to re-learn this amazing piano duet and have a lot fun playing it.
