Murray Bridge Composer/pianist
- Even in his early compositions, it's apparent that Nico is interested in drawing on all manner of musical knowledge to produce satisfying compositions; here, he combines the age old piano study (étude) with contemporary minimalist approaches.
The Three Études are wonderful, as stand-alone movements making one focus on different technical aspects of playing (the first - ostinati and shifting harmonic areas between hands, the second - hand streches and balance of parts, the third - clarity in a moto perpetuo interweaving pattern), and as a whole drawing on material from across the set.
