Eta Cohen: Violin Method Book 3 - Student's Book

Books | Violin

Publisher: Novello
Author: Eta Cohen
Format: Books | Instrumental Tutor
Book 3 of this method introduces third position and new major and minor keys, in addition to fourth finger extensions and half position. The third position work is slow and thorough so there are numerous exercises, along with plenty of tuneful solos and duets. These should keep interest alive while technical difficulties are surmounted.

Excellent coverage of many new keys, plus a good introduction to 3rd position
              Print a little cramped

A good variety of music and exercises. The songs are not always very inspiring though.

Presentation very jumbled up like all the Eta Cohen books, no pictures to make appealing to children, and the exercises and pieces don't always progress smoothly (some are suddenly a lot harder / easier than others). But quite useful for covering things not encountered that often - e.g. extended 4th finger, multiple string crossings, and a lot of shifting. Great to fill in gaps from Grade 4-5.

This book is exactly what I needed. I started the violin after my retirement and am not having regular lessons. I had been lent books 2 and 4, but was finding the jump to Book 4 too difficult. The melodies that Eta Cohen uses for prsctice are attractive and fun. The service and delivery by Musicroom was excellent.

An old friend, but one of the best.
