Introduction, Theme, and Variations is a challenging and exciting for solo Flute with Piano accompaniment. The theme has folk-like melody, but was also inspired by Japanese music – the composer often visited Japan with his wife and father. The seven variations are more firmly in the western classical tradition, but still have elements of Japanese tonality. They remain among the finest works of Louis Moyse (1912-2007): a noted French flautist, composer, and editor of Flute music. Raised in Paris and educated by his father Marcel, also a famous flautist, he was also a skilled pianist.
